(2Peter 1:1-11).
¶“1From: Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. To: those who cast their lot with us, gaining the same precious faith as ours, through our righteous God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:1).
¶“2May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Those blessings+ were given through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:2-3).
¶“4Our Lord has granted us his precious and magnificent promises. Through them, you were able to become partakers of the divine nature as you escaped the corruption that's in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:4).
¶“5For this very reason, make every effort to add virtue to your faith. To virtue, add knowledge. 6To knowledge, add self-control. To self-control, add steadfastness. To steadfastness, add godliness. 7To godliness, add brotherly kindness. To brotherly kindness, add love.” (2 Peter 1:6-7).
¶“8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, you won't be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But if you lack these qualities, you are so nearsighted as to be blind. You have forgotten that you were cleansed from your former sins.” (2 Peter 1:8-9).
¶“10So rather brethren, be more diligent to ensure your calling and election. For if you practice these qualities, you will never fall. 11In this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:10-11).
(2Peter 1:12-21).
¶“12I always make it my business to remind you of these things. Of course you know them, you are strong, and the truth is present with you. 13But I think it right, as long as I am in this tent [of flesh] to stir you up with reminders. 14 I am aware that I will soon lay aside this tent. Our Lord Jesus Christ has made that clear to me. 15Therefore I will make every effort, and won't miss any opportunity, to ensure that after I'm gone you will never forget these things.” (2Peter 1:12-15).
¶“16For we did not follow cleverly devised myths. We made known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. And we were eyewitnesses of his majesty, 17honour, and glory. A voice came to him from God the Father [who dwells] in majestic glory. The voice said as follows: ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased’. 18We ourselves heard this very voice from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.” (2Peter 1:16-18).
¶“19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed. You will do well to give your attention to that word. It is like a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the radiant sun rises in your hearts” (2Peter 1:19).
¶“20 Know this before anything else: no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21For no prophecy ever came through human will. Rather, human prophets spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2Peter 1:20-21).
