Disciples of Christ
—Lessons for new Christians
These lessons complement the Faith-Hope-Love series. They are especially suitable for new disciples. The lessons are each complete units and may be used separately as sermons. Tap any title next to an arrow in the list below.
➤ The Unknown Disciples (Romans 16) —A study of Romans 16 which names about 30 persons of whom we know nothing except what we find in this chapter.
➤ Disciples of Christ —Looks at some of the characteristics of those who are truly disciples of Jesus. Also emphasises the point that one member of the church is not a disciple of another member of the church, rather all members are fellow disciples of Christ.
➤ A Disciple’s Discipline —We consider what set of rules and controls, or what discipline a disciple of Jesus Christ should follow and submit to.
➤ A Disciple’s Code of Conduct —A clear code of conduct that ensures a healthy happy church life for disciples of Christ who band together in any locality.

➤ A Disciple’s Rebuke —Occasionally in any group of Christ’s disciples, someone’s behaviour may not accord with a disciple’s code of conduct. Should that disciple be rebuked?
➤ The Disciple’s Forgiveness. —Jesus said, 'If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents forgive him' (Luke 17:3). This requires that sin be dealt with and not overlooked.
➤ The Disciple’s Repentance —Repentance is necessary to forgiveness of sins. Three things accompany repentance: godly sorrow, confession of sins, and appropriate deeds.
➤ The Disciple’s Fellowship —Paul says, 'Note those who cause divisions and occasions of stumbling contrary to the teaching you have learned. Turn away from them' (Romans 16:17).
➤ The Disciple’s Judgment —Some people will say, 'You have no right to judge'. Usually they have in mind the scripture that says, 'Do not judge, in order that you will not be judged' (Matthew 7:1-2). This can be misunderstood.
➤ The Disciple’s Justice —God is always fair and just. He is no respecter of persons. The disciple of Christ likewise should be without partiality, hypocrisy, or injustice.
➤ The Disciple’s Behaviour —Most people would agree that a Christian’s behaviour or conduct is important. So in this lesson, we partly analyse the conduct of Christ’s disciples. Their behaviour is important because people observe it —and judge Christ accordingly. Our behaviour should be a living example, the message of Christ on exhibit.
➤ The Disciplined Individual —As disciples of Christ we are unique individuals free to live as we choose. We learn from Christ the right way to do this with individualism, discipleship, and initiative.
➤ Friends of the World —We look at both the pros and cons of having friends who are not disciples of Christ.
➤ Three Kinds of Friendship —Friendship should extend into three realms, firstly, that of our brother man, secondly that of self, and thirdly that of God.
➤ His Burden is Light —Keeping God's commandments is a burden to some people, but it should not be. That's what this lesson is about.
➤ Believing in Jesus —the most important thing any of us will ever do. If we reject or even neglect Jesus and his message, we have done the worst thing possible.
➤ Confessing Jesus —Jesus Christ doesn't have any secret admirers, for people who pretend not to believe in him are one with those who deny him.
